The Inspiration...
"Each of us are given a pocket full of time to spend however we may, we may use what we will and waste what we will, but we can never get back a day." The word CANCER couldn't help but make this quote ring true in the hearts of Trudi, Skye, Tifanee, and Austin Elbert. Life is tricky, and sometimes it takes something as mysterious and scary as CANCER for one to realize just how truly thankful we should all be every morning we are blessed enough to open our eyes and start a new day.
Trudi was an active woman, that served in the community, was active in her children's sports, and really the ideal mom. She is strong, confident, intelligent, and driven. In the midst of sending Skye off to college at the University of Texas at Austin, raising a teenage boy at home, and a daughter on the other side of the country she was diagnosed with Breast Cancer. Although she could have let these two simple words turn her life upside down, she took the mind set that it was only going to make her stronger.
With a smile on her face each and everyday in this battle against the disease we are so desperately trying to raise awareness for, she is inspiring others to be strong as well. Last Christmas, Skye an avid horsewoman came up with a leather project for Trudi as a gift, incorporating horses and the ribbon.... and Ribbon Horses were born.
Skye not only chose the horse because of her love for the animal growing up, but becasue she wanted her mom to see an animal that represented strength, perserverance, endurance, stamina, and intelligence as well. The horse is a symbol of the history of America, for without them this country would not be what it is today. What better animal is there to represent such an incredible cause?
